ONLINE MENTORING

Online Mentoring is offered to those photographers that do not live within the Ottawa Valley, or prefer to work outside the normal confines of regular class schedules. Regardless of geographic location, anyone wishing to learn the craft of photography can use the internet to bring a focus on what is truly important. The Photographer. With Online Mentoring as an option, you, the photographer, have the opportunity to ask questions specific to your gear, and personal needs without having to worry about holding back the class, or being held back by the class, as we all learn at different rates and in different ways. This option is both affordable, and flexible enough to fit into any schedule.

Due to the nature of Online Mentoring, each “class” will be very specific to each photographers needs. However, all sessions will start in the same place. First there will be an introduction, and then there will be the creation of a lesson plan. As photography is very personal, very intuitive, so will be the lesson plan. Taking on various form and direction as we move along, your goal will always be the focus and ultimately, the end result.

Introductions:This is where we determine your current level of skill, the type of gear each photographer uses, and goal setting. Whether it be photojournalism, professional portraiture, studio work, or weddings, the end result will be of your choosing. With goals set in place, a lesson plan will be initiated.

Lesson Plans:The goals, developed during the introduction, will be put into play here. All lessons regardless of experience, start with the basics. Lighting, composition, the psychology of photography, and the art of using Zen, in photography. These are crucial elements, and should not be overlooked, no matter the skill level of the student. It is with these building blocks, that all lessons will begin. During the initial sessions, your path will be refined, goals may be adjusted to better fit your vision, and we will be on our way. As we progress through your plan, you will be given assignments, suggested literature to read, and if need be, a suitable equipment list that you can purchase at your own time.

Photos are to be submitted for evaluation, conversation, and critique with no predetermined deadline, so you may work at your own pace. As photographers develop and hone their skills, assignments will continually increase in difficulty, until a level of professional work is accomplished. With this, the photographer will also build the necessary confidence that is required to work in the profession. In the end, a follow up evaluation will be conducted to determine your strengths, and to set in motion the building of a professional portfolio as a stepping stone to your new career, as a Professional Photographer.
