Dance

-A photographer's workshop with Crombie McNeill

This workshop offers the exceptional opportunity to photograph professional dancers in a studio.

Date: Saturday, February 20th - 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Location: Capital City Dance
The studios are in the lower level of Westgate Mall, where there’s lots of free parking.

More information:

This workshop is ‘photo call’, which means we shoot in collaboration with very co-operative dancers. This will present interesting challenges for even the advanced shooter, because it’s not easy to capture a very athletic dancer at the precise moment in an aerial jump. This will be test of the photographer and equipment -- the faster the lens, the better.

There will be a wide variety of dance disciplines; there is the juxtaposition of the flowing elegance of the graceful ballet dancer, to the ‘Modern’ dance movements and postures that are very graphic and energetic.

The lighting in the studio is overhead fluorescents, and there are a lot of them! This, along with the reflectance off the mirrors and white walls, means the light is shadowless. To add dimension and separation, we’ll have supplementary lights, which will also give contour and separation.

The dancers are professionals. They are super co-operative and you’ll have lots of time to shoot with three dancers throughout the day. During this, I’ll offer individual coaching.

Registration is limited to 8 photographers.
